maryland university

92% of the Chinese people are estimating that their country has a mostly positive influence in the world, an opinion also shared by 39% of the citizens of 20 other countries included in an opinion survey realized by Maryland University (SUA) and  Globecan institute. In comparison, only 60% of the interviewed Americans have a mainly positive opinion about the role of the United States in the world, and 43% of the respondents of the same 20 countries have a rather vnegative image.

“The Chinese trust the Beijing government’s line, which states that China’s world ascension can bring about good things for the mankind”, stated analyst Yuan Cen from Newsweek-Washington Post. The Chinese are profoundly convinced that their country will never invade other foreign country”.

The favorably lower percentage in he foreign countries – the American researcher explains – is due, among others, to the fact that “any new player on a world scale intrigues, and China is no exception”. This percentage is also related to the insufficient knowledge about the Chinese realities in the aforementioned countries.
